01 / Material families

Four materials. Different jobs in the tool system.

CBN abrasive grains are not the same product as a PCBN cutting composite. PCD machining materials and PDC drilling cutters also serve different workpieces and tool geometries.

Ferrous metal grinding

Cubic Boron Nitride (CBN) Grit

Synthetic CBN grains for resin, vitrified, metal or electroplated abrasive-tool systems. Consider crystal morphology, friability, grit size, grinding duty and bond compatibility.

Polycrystalline Diamond Compact (PDC)

Diamond-table cutting elements bonded to a substrate, commonly selected for drilling and other specialized high-wear tool designs. Examine cutter geometry, formation and impact-abrasion balance.

Product paths: oil & gas, mining / geology, milling / cutting.

02 / CBN grade reference

CBN grit: start with crystal behavior and bond system.

SinoDiam's four familiar CBN grades vary in crystal shape and intended abrasive-tool conditions. The table is a discussion framework—not a guarantee of output or universal interchangeability.

CBN A10 · Amber / irregular

Resin-bond grinding

Irregular amber CBN chosen for selected resin-bond grinding applications; review friability and desired self-sharpening behavior.

View CBN-A10

CBN A20 · Amber / regular

Vitrified, metal & plated systems

More regular-shaped amber crystals considered for selected vitrified, metal-bond and electroplated tool designs.

View CBN-A20

CBN B10 · Black / friable

Self-sharpening grinding

Friable black CBN, often evaluated for resin-bond applications where controlled particle fracture and finishing behavior matter.

View CBN-B10

CBN B20 · Bright black / blocky

Higher-load grinding conditions

Blocky black CBN to evaluate where crystal toughness, grinding load and tool operating conditions are key parameters.

03 / Technical material comparison

Choose by the process—not by acronym similarity.

CBN grit, PCBN cutting materials, PCD and PDC all belong to advanced superabrasive supply, yet they solve different problems in grinding, precision machining and drilling.

05 / Technical selection workflow

Start with the workpiece and tool architecture.

A material recommendation should be based on application conditions, not just a catalog name.

01
Identify the workpiece or formation. Alloy, hardness, composite composition, cast iron grade or geological formation.
02
Define the operation. Grinding, turning, milling, drilling, tool manufacture or finishing.
03
Specify the tool system. Bond and mesh for CBN; insert geometry for PCD/PCBN; cutter shape and mounting for PDC.
04
Validate before production. Review wear, finish, cutting force, impact behavior and total process cost.

06 / Manufacturing & technical supply

Industrial diamond capabilities in China and Thailand.

SinoDiam supports technical material selection, processing discussions and international sourcing across several superabrasive categories.

ZHENGZHOU · CHINA

SinoDiam International

China operations include industrial diamond and superabrasive product development, manufacturing coordination and specialized processing, together with technical communication for CBN, PCD, PCBN and PDC inquiries.

PATHUM THANI · THAILAND

Thaimond Superabrasives Co., Ltd.

The Thailand operation focuses on crushed diamond, micron diamond powders and selected coated diamond materials. It should not be assumed to manufacture every advanced superabrasive family listed on this page.

Actual country of manufacture, grade availability, certificates, supporting documents and commercial terms depend on the individual product and order. Please confirm specific origin and documentation requirements before purchasing.

07 / Technical questions

Questions from grinding, machining and drilling teams.

These answers support initial material discussions. Final product choice requires the applicable technical datasheet and process validation.

How does CBN grit differ from PCBN cutting material?

CBN grit is supplied as individual abrasive grains used in grinding tools. PCBN is a consolidated polycrystalline CBN cutting material used in certain turning and machining operations. They are not interchangeable product forms.

When should I consider PCD instead of PCBN?

PCD is commonly considered for non-ferrous metals, graphite and selected abrasive composites; PCBN is considered for hardened steels, cast iron and other suitable ferrous applications. Check tool geometry and cutting conditions.

What are the differences among CBN A10, A20, B10 and B20?

They differ in crystal color, morphology and intended grinding/bonding considerations. A10 is irregular amber, A20 more regular amber, B10 friable black and B20 blocky black. Confirm current mesh and technical specifications before selecting.

Is a PDC cutter the same as a PCD machining insert?

No. PDC cutters are a specific composite cutting-element construction often used in drilling or geological tools, commonly involving a polycrystalline diamond table and supporting substrate. PCD machining tool materials are selected for different cutting geometries and workpieces.

Is SND-M/PCD powder a finished PDC cutter?

No. SND-M/PCD is a micron diamond powder for selected polycrystalline material manufacturing processes. Finished PDC cutters are separate products with their own dimensions, constructions and application requirements.

What information should I send for a superabrasive quotation?

Please share your material or formation, processing method, desired product family, any known grade or dimensions, expected order volume, destination and target schedule. When available, include tool drawings and current trial results.
